Axcentua is developing multi-targeted chemosensitizers (MTC) – small molecule anti-cancer compounds selected to kill cancer cells by multiple mechanisms and to increase the sensitivity of tumors to conventional chemotherapy. These compounds are developed by the company’s unparalleled “re-engineering” strategy from well characterized natural compounds – know to have a track record as anti-cancer drugs. By this “re-engineering” strategy, novel patentable high-value prescription drugs with improved pharmaceutical properties can be rapidly developed and with a reduced risk for failure – up to a stage where they can be evaluated in humans.
Natural compounds are a largely untapped source of potential candidate drugs (CDs) with generally well documented pharmacological effects. Until recently, strong product patent protection, of this class of publicly disclosed compounds has been difficult to obtain, rendering Intellectual Property (IP) protection unattainable.
Axcentua uses a novel strategy to secure intellectual property protection for proprietary, natural compound derived CDs. The selected CDs have in many cases been shown to be effective in animal models of disease and in some cases even been shown to have pharmacological effects in man.
Axcentua will initially focus on cancer as the main indication for the first products, and the targeted market segment is primarily the in-licensing/co-development market of the Pharmaceutical & Biotech industry.
